Tips for Eating Intuitively on Thanksgiving

Whether you’re on a diet, or leaving diet culture I thought I’d share a few tips for honoring your body during this meal or any other indulgent meal you may encounter.

  1. Don’t save all of your calories for the meal. When you do this you are much more likely to overeat or binge eat.

  2. Asked your loved ones to please refrain from good/food bad food and weight loss centered conversations today.

  3. Remember that food can be the bridge between you, tradition, connection, pleasure, and community. That’s a beautiful thing.

  4. Before you fill your plate, look around, inhale/exhale. You can trust your body. Take in the colors of the food. What are you drawn to? What speaks to you? What food are you most excited to taste? You’ll know because your mouth will salivate and your body will be excited.

  5. Put your hand on your belly throughout the meal and check in. How is the food landing inside your body? You can trust your belly to tell you when to stop because it’s had enough.

  6. Always know that you can go back for more. No guilt. No shame. We only get this kind of a feast once a year.

To all of my warriors that have left diet culture. I AM WITH YOU. You are definitely on the right path.

Sending hugs.
